Secret Wishes

Care free and worry free

That's what society wanted young me to be

I was that for a while,

until life began adding harshness to the pile

Reality hit me hard

Everyday like a poker man picking the wrong card

The smell of cigarettes and alcohol

covered the wallpaper of the downstairs hall

What was I supposed to do?

I know, not to be a victim too.

How I wish I listened to society

How I wish I could be the old me to the "T"

But those wishes will never be answered

Because I am who I am

and these secret wishes should never be heard

This poem is about:
Me
My family
Our world
