A Second Chance
There was a little girl, who looks much the same as me
Blonde hair, blue eyes, and doesn’t know she’s free
She’s been pushed away and distracted most her life
She doesn’t know how to cope when her memories try to bite
A sweet little girl, who doesn’t know any better
All she wants is a friend; it doesn’t matter how they meet her
She’s ten now, but of course, she’ll get older
I have yet to warn her that the world only gets colder
Then there is the boy, who acts much the same as me
He’s Mama’s boy, but I think he’s finally starting to see
His first years without a father filled him with much conflictions
Brown hair, light eyes, and is now gaining much ambition
He’s coping now behind smiles and jokes
As our father arrived through mirrors and smoke
A sad little boy, who was told that the thing holding him back was anger
All he knows is that a promise is just another word for disaster
He’s eleven now, but I swear that boy has more walls built than I
I know he does it, but I still rarely see him cry
These are my siblings, the ones I left behind
To suffer the fights that our parents brought into our lives
Here I am, hundreds of miles away
Safe in a home while they struggle to make a change
I’m almost eighteen, so close to paving them a way
To show them that hope hasn’t ran astray
I lost them then, but I won't lose them again
So I will march my way for a better life
And I will build my home with them in mind
