Seashells

For this year, I am thankful that I can try again

The waves pull and push, never staying still

The ocean always changes, always flowing

Standing on the brink, the expanse is infinite

The waters lead to the edges of the everything

I guess you were born gifted to swim

I was born with fear to even try

Casting seashells for wishes is all I do

Sometimes if I look out, I can see you strive

This used to be fun, but then it's funny how things change

You said, "it comes from inside", well maybe I could try again

You said, "all you have to do is treat yourself to what life brings everyday"

You said, "just watch the currents lead you on"

Just learn to let things go, to breathe,

to keep wading, and to stand strong

You don’t have to fight so hard this time, because you have a fighter already inside

Because if there is more than just the sea, there is more in you

Me

It's clear what you think poetry has taught you. You bring forth an essence of vulnerability, and you acknowledge what it means to live a life without fear, something [the narrator] seems to yearn for.
