Romans 6:23  New English Translation

23 For the payoff of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

“The wages of sin is death”? Is it something we earn?

And after almost no effort, will we still get paid for it?

We'll never have to work at it, as it is an inherited natural

Almost a character trade, and wasting time in a nightshift

To be occupied with sin will take away the focus from death

While we are enjoying it to the fullest, we‘ll cover up its grief

One day it will knock on every door as we receive its reward

And the place we did invest our lives makes today beyond belief
