Schadenfreude

Schadenfreude

a word in the German language with no direct English translation,

meaning: pleasure derived from someone else's pain

I am punished with no listening ears

having nothing

to complain

only the victims are allowed

I’m not one of them

I will make this clear

my friends will realize this and

like me convert to being the victims

because they focus on those who

are not seen yet they become statistics

in our world getting numbers and percents yet they

don’t because they have no meaning and

the one’s who need the numbers most

do not receive any

the numbers have lost their meaning and

those who should be looking do not even notice

is paper really mightier than the sword

I am no longer popular

after expressing my opinion

my voice meaningless and forgotten

because society does not want to see it’s flaws

so I listen to those above

the experts say

1 in 4 American teens are bullied at school

1 in 4 girls are sexually abused before eighteen

1 in 4 American children live with only one parent

1 in 4 Americans will die of cancer

statistically speaking

of the four of you

you each have one of these problems

it would be absurd to believe

there still is a chance

These statistics will only change if we choose to reverse them...
