Sandy Hook Shooting Eulogy

It’s three o’clock on the dot, going through the highway after yet another long day of trying to make end’s meet.
Bank account at negative and blood pressure skyrocket high.
But before she can go home to the comfort of the comfort food and sleep she longed for, there was one more place she had to go.
Somewhere very important,
To pick up her little girl from school.
Remembering her first day,
when she ran off without even a goodbye to her mother,
not clinging to her skirt like the other children at the entrance,
she was always excited to go to school.
Every single day.

She’s getting so big,
the time seems to be flying by,
and her mother can just picture her getting a diploma,
walking down the aisle,
having a family of her own,
the grown woman that was soon to come.

The scene when she arrives brings panic to her chest and heart.
Every armed force and crying families surrounded the small building of the elementary school.
Beside the mother stands another as her son rushes into her arms,
she looks and looks,
searches and searches.
She even dares to pray for the first time in a long, long time.
But her prayers are not answered.
An officer comes up and places a hand on her shoulder.
He’s giving her that look;
of grief and sympathy
that was being mirrored to other parents
who were wailing in the arms of other officers around them.

The last sane thought she could think was:
Why my child?
