The Routine

Wake Up.

Eat.

Work.

Sleep.

Wake Up.

Repeat.

Monotony affects the population,

Suppresses our elation.

Routine produces lethargy,

Making us forget how to simply be.

Flitting from tree to tree,

Busy, busy, busy like bees.

We forget to see,

How good it is to be.

Just to exist,

And appreciate all that is in our midst.

For when we take the time to look around,

And turn the lost into found,

We may begin to understand,

How awesome is the world of man.

We are graced to exist upon this Earth,

From the moment of our birth.

Whether it be a wonder of nature like the Grand Canyon,

Or the loving embrace of a companion,

Our planet has much to offer,

But often its' gifts we squander.

Wake Up.

Eat.

Work.

Sleep.

Wake up.

Repeat?

No.

Wake up.

Look.

Look around at these places,

But especially, relish each other's faces,

For your loved ones can give you what your routine will lack,

Like the assurance of having your back.

Or laughing with you untill you cry,

Or a bone crushing hug at the goodbye.

See, life is truly awesome when we make these memories,

Because then we can say, "I lived my life, my life did not live me."
