Up Rooted

Location

The roots have been planted

To were the soil gives me strength

And when my roots are in the sand

It still gives me stability and hope

That maybe I can stand on my own

But to be uprooted

To where the my bare feet show

I feel claustrophobic knowing I can’t go home

But this new home where they offer friendship and hope

Now all I’m walking on is the broken glass

Those that are the shattered dreams of my past

And what they call friendship and hope

Is nothing but pain, pain knowing I can never grow my roots

Even when the callous starts to regain its strength

Upon this field of broken glass

My feet wither away, creating new scars for my pain

Reminding me I’m uprooted and can never go home

The home I call California, is nothing but a dream

Where now the 18 year old boy

Is waiting, wanting to plant his feet back into that sand and soil

But it’s hard when you have been uprooted

And dropped into the middle of Oklahoma.
