Rise above

I've seen a struggle seen by too many other human beings,

I realized as a teen

Lower middle class, half black, half white, they call me in between

It won't last, I'm set from a different cast, In this cruel system like caste. Yet, I will overcome the past

So now I'm striving for the top.

Surviving 'til I drop.

Thriving knowing I can not be stopped

knowing my tuition is a lot

Too much for me to afford alone

How can society condone me fighting on my own

an uphill battle against an avalanche, but like time, I'll advance

I have an oath to growth, a drive to boast.

Without a car or home, asking friends to be my host

One semester at college and I've made friends coast to coast

I want to say a toast, but how am I supposed to boast without bread

scholarships, I got the provost,

Out of those I know, I do the most, but still I'm not ahead.

Head of skating club, debating what else to do but ride.

Over-read the material, No textbook be side

besides, aside from lack of money for my tuition

I know that all of my dreams will come into fruition

I'm on the mission to switch my position

Got many college admissions, but in admission

I'm held to a different definition, because this is all a true rendition
