Retirement of the Flag

Location

Retirement of the Flag

The flag represents the American Soldier

It flies in the wind as the soldier fights in battles

Always an example, never giving up

The stripes represent the soldier’s rights and freedoms

That become faded and torn over time

As he protects these same rights for others

Just as a flag retires, the soldier may die for his country

Every freedom burns away

Only one part remains after the flag falls

Just like the stars linger unspoiled in the ashes

Leaving behind a representation of the flag

The many lives a soldier touches will never parish,

But serve as an everlasting remembrance of a fallen soldier’s legacy
