Remembering Bolivia

Last year held challenges,

Some that terrified me, some that didn’t.

All were conquerable

With the right mindset.

I made my plans, I planted my heart

Firmly, steadfastly into them.

But God had other ideas.

He sent me where I didn’t want to go,

With people I didn’t want to go with.

I wasn’t qualified, wasn’t skilled,

Not in the least.

But does that all really matter?

He sent me, and I went.

Begrudgingly, yes, but I went.

I don’t remember crying,

Or desperately calling home.

I just remember the smiles.

The hugs.

The “thank yous.”

The meals we shared, the laughs we had.

The conversations, in Spanish and English.

The breakthroughs.

The “I finally understand now”

And the “teach me more words.”

The reluctant goodbyes.

The tears when we left.

I went where I didn’t want to go,

With people I didn’t want to go with.

But I made a heart-load of friends.

Never forget Bolivia.
