This is for those who wish on shooting stars behind closed doors,
Whispering their hopes and dreams underneath their shaky breath,
Hoping the school-yard bully doesn’t make his daily rounds to your lunch table,

This is for the family cramped into the last five feet of a room they share with two other families,
The soft wash of the street lamps,
Falling over their quiet faces,

This is for those who only eat dinner on Thanksgiving from the murky mess halls of soup kitchens,
Thanking God they have a light fixture above their head,

Remember, you are someone,

This is for the girl born,
someplace else, raised here,
Focusing on her education,
Longing for the day that Dream Act becomes reality,
So she can accept the scholarships she has earned, but cannot receive,
Tu eres alguien,
You are someone,

This is for the ones who starve themselves,
Passing their scraps onto their siblings,
Cause they need it more,
Cause they cannot afford food,
Cause they cannot afford for their eldest children to not work,
Starving,
This is for the ones who starve themselves,
Boys and Girls,

This is for the girl who is mocked for too much make-up,
For the girl who didn’t wear enough make-up,
For the boy who gets his first pimple,
We get them too,
The high school yard blues,

Clawing at Godly figures,
Honored in Men's Health, GQ, and Men's Weekly,
Knowing being thin,
Isn't enough,
You have to be gorgeous,

For those who eat their lunches alone,
This is for those hidden in closets,
Too familiar with their own skeletons,
calling rusted razor blades nirvana,
Not knowing love,
Because society will not allow it,
Because their families will not allow it,
This is for boys who like boys,
hearts open to love but bodies and minds black and blue from the blows of their peers,
Walking bodies into schools,
Leaving hearts at the curb,
Greeted with the words faggot and bitch,
Slammed on their lockers,
As lockers slam in time Like funeral bells,

Remember you are someone!

Even on your weakest days,
You are as true as an autumn sunrise,
You make the world turn,
The cold wind blow,
That makes the gypsy leaves shake and dance,
Drowning out the ignorant slurs,
You are the crescent moon-
Beautiful,
And your voice is it's glow,
Lighting up a dark world,
Wishing on shooting stars that skip like heartbeats across the loners canvas,

You are someone,
You are someone,
You are someone,
If you need a voice,
You have one,
Beating to your soul’s biorhythm,
Cadence rolls through Ventricles, through atria, to arteries, back down veins to ventricles,
You are the eternal loop of the lungs,
Inhaling inspiration and exhaling potential,

You are someone,
Embrace it,
Live it,
Be it,
Forever.
