and the liquid flows licking the sides of the tube
with a red-bleeding tongue
while my chest rises slowly,
my lungs breathing, heaving

The cold rushes in,
seeping, heaping my heart in emotion
and motioning my body to crave it

“Just drink a little more,
just beg a little more
off that friend who you met
behind the fulton street store”

I feel the pull, and I’m ransacked by guilt
Blood spilt last week for my nighttime addiction
Can’t even remember the last time control
was more than a goal for me to work toward
