Record Farer
I can make a true song about me myself
-
The Seafarer
This tale is true and mine,
and while I cannot expect everyone to appreciate it
I hope you will humor me and listen.
The tale is evolving-I don’t yet know the encore.
Endless and existing, I carry on
in hopes of holding on to a sleepy thought
that someday I will know where the needle will drop.
White noise whistles through broken speakers
as I soak into a melodious cry.
If only the road before me was paved with a B side
to ensure that if the first five songs weren’t Billboard material,
then surely the next ones would be.
For despite how wordless I am portrayed, I am wayward.
Twenty other genres and not a one fits me, yet I know my call.
I know that each layer of skin is a line on an album,
a spin of a cd, a film on a cassette.
I know that a collaboration of anxiety and angst is fevered
in the face of society.
I know that if a picture is worth a thousand words,
then a musical masterpiece must be worth a million.
A million words that I should say and I say none.
I say none, but I refuse to hypocritically
leave you to say them all.
If a word seems worth saying, then say it.
If a song is worth screaming, then scream it.
If a cause is worth dying for, then die for it.
This concept album is yours alone to produce,
so find your lyrics and ride out your stormy sea
because you are you and I am me.
