The Reason

My eyes

I rise

I compromise

My sleep still on my face

Hair in the way

Another day

Sun reaching through my windowpane

Reaching for me

Leave me be

Can’t you see

This world of hate

This heavy weight

A child like me

Has to keep

The constant stress

I am blessed

By love surrounding me

My motivation

My mother’s smile

Creative mind

Her patience

Unconditionally

She is the reason.

My father’s words

Care and support

Protective hands

Protecting me

He is the reason.

Brother’s laugh

Innocent ways

Innocent face

Always watching me

He is the reason.

Simple moments

Keep me sane

Through the pressure

The pressure to succeed

The fear of failure

The fear to dismay

Getting my way

My fears

Veiling my face

Silencing my plea

My generation

Our advantage

Our disadvantage

We are the key

In our beds

Our slumber

Yet awaken

We are oblivious

To our needs

Entitled

Expecting

Things to go our way

Naturally

The reason

I rise

In the dawning

Simply

My family
