The Real Me

Fri, 11/06/2015 - 16:14 -- Dusky42

You ask me, “Who are you?”

I wonder the same thing sometimes…

If only I knew.

I’ve been taught to stay within the lines.

I shouldn’t stray far from the norm.

I keep my thoughts to myself.

But in the inside, there’s a storm.

It’s chaos, books are flying off the shelf.

Sometimes I cannot handle my thoughts.

I feel so helpless and hopeless.

I get lost and can no longer connect the dots.

I must remain focused.

 Who am I?

I am a dreamer, a thinker,

A believer.

I try…

I try to see things for what they are,

On the inside.

But how far?

How far will it go until I can no longer hide?

I have learned to not dwell in the past,

But rather to learn from it.

To make new memories that will last.

But I admit,

It’s hard to forget…

All of the hardships, the regret.

I live within the lyrics of music.

This is the only way to keep myself sane.

To keep all of the voices muted.

It helps with the pain.

Don’t get me wrong,

I am not just darkness.

Within me, there’s also a happy song.

A promise.

That life is beautiful and full of gifts,

Even when the sand shifts.

I try to make the most of what I’ve been given.

I go through life with an open mind.

I try to stay driven.

I want to help the blind.

I want them to see…

I want them to see the real me.
