Puppy's First Snow

You step out tentatively, unsure, scared,

The cold air hitting you straight in the face.

Master is behind you, urging you on.

“It’s alright, it can’t hurt you.” Push, push, shove.

Your fur stands on end- you have not a coat.

First one paw, then the next. Then two more. Cold.

It’s really cold. The flakes come halfway up.

You freeze as the kids run around, screaming,

Laughing in delight. Take a sniff, a lick-

Fluffy and chilled, like ice cream Tommy dripped.

You leave a couple paw prints behind you,

No longer skeptical about this slush.

A yip explodes from your tiny body.

A brand new love is discovered that day.
