A Promise

when i was young and the world was small

and finiteness had no meaning

i thought that everything lasted forever

and that the earth was one of those things.

but after i opened my ears and my eyes

and listened to the noise surrounding me

i saw the destruction of the earth

and i heard the few voices protesting overwhelmed by the greed

of our society.

fracking

deforestation

extinction

poaching

pollution

the list of abuses go on and on

each a heinous crime against nature and society

mortally wounding, instead of protecting

the same earth that will be home to generations after us.

my vision is to change the world

to stop the subjugation of earth to such horrifying atrocities

to spread an awareness of how much humans need the earth

(and not the other way around)

to work to create a better future for us and for our children.

for this, i would dedicate my life

for this, i am dedicating my life.
