The Problem and its Question

Why do we stray so far into the evils that men do?

It is in a flash of lightning, so awesome and striking,

It is there before our eyes and then it bids adieu.

Our answer to the Devil's question is overdue.

I want to know why those who look like me or him or her can be so frightening.

Why do we stray so far into the evils that men do?

The soft touch of a child's hand, comforts through and through,

Those who would hurt before help, there is nothing more heartbreaking.

It is there before our eyes and then it bids adieu.

I will protect, I will protect them true.

But even so, I ask, despite those like me, teaching, loving, shielding,

Why do we stray so far into the evils that men do?

It is always the problem of evil, men are evil's retinue.

The solution comes before we who are good: taunting, always taunting.

It is there before our eyes and then it bids adieu.

There are the pieces of love lying askew,

they weep to be renewed, weeping and wailing while wondering

Why do we stray so far into the evils that men do?

It is there before our eyes and then it bids adieu.
