Pried Apart
The eternal summers of childhood
with the lazy buzzing bugs and the day's languid warmth
Are gone forever.
A young child, unheedingly uprooted from his country
and planted into another, in uncertain soil
must now make his crutched way
with token and tepid filial support.
Filial love was plenty, that is no doubt.
But father abusing mother, knocking her about
sparked a quietly glowing anger in his stomach
Love without marriage, don't marry without love.
Now the summers are hot without warmth,
the days are taut without strength,
while the boy whiles away in a restaurant,
while others eat.
