Pride

Location

It came oh so very naturally,
Like the night before next dawn.
If only I'd known it coming,
The line might have then been drawn.

It saw its most excellent opportunity,
to strike against my only heart.
Like a venomous creature ready to strike,
All it needed was one quick dart.

It conquered its opponent without effort.
No resistance stood in its way.
It no longer has need of conquest;
Forevermore my pride is here to stay.

Veni, vidi, vici: It came, it saw, it conquered.
My pride must soon be put to death.
To live with it is to not live at all,
And I shall fight it until my final breath.
