Pomegranate

There is no subtlety

in eating this winter treat-

a pomegranate

a tempting violent ordeal

red stickiness permeates

your hands become tools

gripping its flesh in both palms

red to your elbows

hover over the sink mauling

each seed instantly devoured

the civilized get

uncomfortable pleasure

when they strike its cut

side with a wooden spoon

each seed departing its home
