Poetry saved my llife

Wed, 07/11/2018 - 12:10 -- Arolyn

I keep my head down while dark thoughts create a storm in my head.

The black velvet sky blots out the burning sun. I don't know why I'm still here.

My want for breathing is receding and my heart is bleeding for a love

that I can't have. Words that I refuse to say crawl down my throat and make

a noose for my mind.

So instead of dying from unspoken words, I let them out.

Lined paper becomes my escape from a cage that I made.

Ink flows down the page like a waterfall. Words are frantically scratched until

the city that never sleeps finally closes its eyes.

Only then do I close mine.

I can wake up tomorrow because these words saved my life.
