A Poem for the Woodpecker

Location

To the black and white minstrel

Capped in red

Drumming a ballad of beat

In a forest ballroom with ceilings of leaves

Capped in red

Autumn trees stand tall

In a forest ballroom with ceilings of leaves

When Youth came out to dance

Autumn trees stand tall

Since the past

When Youth came out to dance

But innocence no longer reigns

Since the past

The forest castles stand strong

But innocence no longer reigns

And Youth no longer dances

The forest castles stand strong

But sun makes way for moon

And Youth no longer dances

And only wind dances in the empty ballrooms

But sun makes way for moon

Drumming a ballad of beat

And only wind dances in the empty ballrooms

To the black and white minstrel
