Play, Little Children

I passed the park today

and saw the children playing

Heard the squeaking of the metal

merry-go-round turning

——————————-

Play little children play

The world is here for just one day

there isn’t any time to waste

so play little children play

I saw you dancing in your skirt

your little feet kicking up dirt

your hair a mess but beautiful

your eyes as bright as summer

Dance little wild child dance

reel and spin and jump and prance

for this may be your one last chance

so dance little wild child dance

The field and woods are echoing

I’m only there for a short time

to remember when I too

ran through fields as little children do

Run little children run

Into the rays of the setting sun.

Life will not always be this fun,

so run little children run.
