The Pier
Wooden beams and wooden planks
And salty sea scented air
Drew our souls near the edge
And then just held them there
The wind whipped our hair
The cold bit our noses
And by the waves we were softly sprayed
Eyes glued to the horizon
Waiting
For nothing at all
We held each other close
At this point beyond the coast
I could hear his beating heart
And he could feel my shivering bones
And we knew without saying a word
We were small and insignificant
With dreams as vast as the sea of blue before us
But for a moment
We were content with being inessential
Happy to forget the world
Free of any hesitation
Free of any fear
Swallowed by love
Swallowed by the ocean
There
At the end of the pier
