The Phoenix

Rise oh bird of fire,

Rise from your nest,

For there is a cry for help abroad.

Fly with your wings of flames

Through the blackening sky

Burn the clouds,

With the tips of your fiery feathers.

Rise oh bird of fire,

Shed a tear and heal

Sing a deep grieving song

In your echoing beauty—

Tell a tale of woe.

Then cry out once more

In your throaty song

And give another tear.

Battle the poison

Deep within the veins

Your power is ever greater

Cry one last drop.

Rise oh bird of fire,

And you shall heal

Your job is done

Return to your perch

In song

And burn away

Rise oh bird of fire,

In the ashes

You remain

Forever singing

That woeful song,

Your job is done.

Rise oh bird of fire,

For you are reborn.

Hatching once again,

Rising from your nest,

Flying with your wings of flames,

Through the blackening sky

Burning the clouds,

With the tips of your fiery feathers.
