The Person Next to You

Maybe he's somebody's grandpa,
this old man sitting next to me,
With a lit cigarette in one hand
and a piece of profound literature in the next.
Maybe he's an old military official
whos seen more than is willing to be told
and hides those secrets under the fishers hat
and aging spots
that comfortably sit upon his head.
Maybe hes just an old man,
whos lived a life of memories
that are slowly escaping his conscious
and leaving nothing but wonder and loneliness.
Maybe hes just a person
who wants a smile from another.
