Because my mother was an immigrant, and young, and single,

I've been written off.

They say I am most likely to drop out of school and become pregnant out of high school

like my mother.

I will prove them wrong, using my dedication and intelligence to propell forward.

I will have a better life that the past of my family, because I am the first.

The first to go to universtiy. The first to pursue my dreams. 

Beause my mother was an immigrant, youn, and single, she worked hard in my past so that 

I could have a better future. My past does not define my present, because I strive for a different

reality.
