Paper Faces

Sometimes

I am the clown

Making people laugh

with quirks, with jokes, with funny faces

Sarcastic quips flow from me like rain falls from angry thunderclouds

Other times, I am the mouse

Hiding

Shy

Quiet

Not speaking

Afraid that someone will step on me

Then again

I am the sweet one

Never insulting

Gentle

Polished

Kind to everyone

But when I am angry

Or scared

Or upset

These masks fall away

and underneath is a girl

who struggles to put the mask back on
