Painted Heart

You are an artist when it comes to words.

Your tongue is the brush, my heart the canvas.

You knew just the words to paint my heart

the color of love you promised me.

You charmed me with reds of passion.

Little did I know, it was only a disguise.

It was a cover for the hues of deep blue

you painted underneath.

You were sneaky with your painted strokes.

You were so smoothly distracting me from

the poison you used to bring it all together.

You painted a picture of lies and deceit

masquerading as honesty, trust, and love unconditional.

You painted my heart and you painted it well.

Just wish I'd known that underneath the painted beauty

lied the truth you intended to paint.
