Our Necklace

Fri, 11/28/2014 - 23:08 -- Leyoht

The musical shape of love:

It surrounds me,

Wraps around me.

It fills me up till I’ve got nothing to lose.

A piece of the puzzle

Dangling from my neck.

Removing me from the deck

It’s not what I expected.

It’s just like they say:

Without you, I am useless;

Without me, you are useless.

Why have we fallen through this horrid loop?

Don’t keep the puzzle apart.

But mend it together:

It’ll be my pleasure.

I want to fit it right through,

Complete this message: “I love you.”

I know it won’t be that long

Till I see you again.

But every second I’m away,

I’m thrown into an inescapable den.

Why must it come to this?

I realize what you’ve done for me

And I thank you once again.

I yearn for you to sign the sheet

With a sealing, jet-black pen.

When life pushes me to the ground—on my knees—

And I can’t help but think I am done,

I see a light at the end of the tunnel—

Only to see it will run.

That light—

Why does it retreat?

Those beams—

Just who do they want to meet?

My heart—

Heavy with my burden—is about to break at last.

I decide to clutch it,

But in its place I find a piece of you:

Forever etched into my mind.

Hanging from my neck, the musical shape says, “I love you!”

And in response,

My eyes shed those drops of light blue.

And even though you’re not there,

I know one thing for sure:

The musical shape of love

Will always keep me secure.
