Our Bodies

We criticize ourselves on a daily basis.

Fat.

Stupid.

Short.

We are never content with who we are.

We are told what we should look like and how we should act,

And if we don’t fit into social norms,

We are nothing.

Where has the self-love gone?
Where is our confidence?

Her self-esteem has shattered into pieces and withered away.

His confidence is down the drain.

Why do we pay so much attention to the things we should learn to love,

And change what we have to be accepted by people who should not even matter?

People pick away at themselves,

Highlighting what they see as flaws,

Wishing to change every inch of their physical appearance

And hoping to alter every piece of their behavior.

We look at ourselves with disgust and judgement.

We are our worst critics.

We’re descending into a world of negativity and shame for reasons I cannot fathom.

We are beautiful creatures that deserved to be loved at least by ourselves.

If we cannot accept ourselves and be proud of who we are,

How can anyone accept us?
Love us?

Take a look at yourself.

Think positively.

You have a lovely smile.

A cute nose.

An incredibly contagious laugh.

An open mind.

Knowledge.

Manners.

You are you.

Learn to love yourself.

We lack what is necessary to be happy in this world.

If I could change anything in this world,

It would be negative body image.

Not our bodies.
