Our Blanket Of Wonders

I stitch together with a needle and thread

All of the words and ideas inside my head

But then you come along

And I try to act strong

But your deadly knife of words cuts deep

And all I can do is gently weep

As you take away me

My culture, my identity, my passions

And as the seams come apart

My poor, wounded heart

Aches as my pieces are bleached and strung together

In an indifferent way like the others and whether

I can find myself again remains unknown

For I have lost all that I have known

And now I beg of you

(And this is your cue)

Listen to my story

Of pain and of beauty

And learn from it; please don't dismiss

That within your very ignorant bliss

There are others in pain

And it is you who can free the chain

That chokes their beautiful voices

For life is filled with choices

Because we are equal

And we can always write a sequel

In which where we come from doesn't matter

And we share what does matter

Our culture, our identity, our passions

And we can learn from each other's actions

And together we can sew a wonderous blanket

That'll keep everyone's story embroidered within it

Called 'Our Blanket of Wonders'

Because that's what all of us are; wonders
