Ophelia's Final Song

How long,

O Hamlet?

How long

Must you take

To come back

With the flowers

You've promised

When we first

Laid down in

Our pasture?

How long

Must it be

Before my

Flowers wilt

Because of the

Sword-like

Thorns that

You pricked

Me with?

Will you hear

The song I sang

For you?

With bells ringing

"Hey nonny, hey

Nonny, hey nonny,"

As the church

Proclaims my devotion

And in the water

I am baptized, as

You drink from

The pasture you lay in

How long, Hamlet

O Hamlet,

How long?

For you snarl

At me, with

Bloodied teeth

From the sheep

That had bore

My woolen soul

And I baah at

You, hoping you

Didn't turn black.

But you, Hamlet

Are an eclipse, and

I am your sun

I light up the

Darkness with

My soft wool

And you drown

Me back in with

The black poison

You force down

And damn me with.

So here are the

Wedding flowers

That array our bed

With their drowned

Vines.

Maybe your wolf-like

Eyes will sing

With vines for

A flute.
