Open Mind

First
I was different
I wanted to be the same
as the others, blend in.
The one thing that made me different
blinded me
from seeing
the many ways that we are all the alike.

Then
I was the same
I wanted to be different
stand out from the others, distinctive.
The many ways that we are all the same
blinded me
from seeing
the specific ways that we are all unique.

Now
I am just me
and I want to be
who I am, myself.
The differences and similarities
let me see
everything
with an open mind.
