One Night
Location
a dark night.
a young girl
walks
alone
her steps echoing
unfamiliar footsteps
no destination
vaigely familiar streets
not far
from a place
she calls
Her home
(for now)
a bench
two strangers
conversation
idle chatter
turning
heartfelt.
developing
connection.
he admires her wit
which she is quick to deny
her mind is flawed.
fragmented.
fractured.
insanity,
she claims.
He places a hand on her shoulder
A gesture, perhaps,
to ease tension?
But she is relaxed,
Chemically
Pre-balanced
She tells a tale
about a life long lost
distant memories
Recollections
Of pain.
Connection deepens
he listens
does he care?
to her,
just words.
Meaningless?
He says
I see you trust me
she nods
puzzled
For she doesnt know,
what it is
To trust
His ears are open
he is there
he listens
as his hands
softly
inch
downward
She's there,
Or is she?
she allows
touch.
hoping his grimy fingers
will bring her body,
her soul,
to lIfe.
but they dont.
In a flash, he was gone.
And the only memory
lingering from the night before
the eyes of a stranger
glaring into her soul
You wont remember this tomorrow?.
