One Job May Change My Life

Growing up I always believed that life was what I saw on a movie screen,

that sticks and stones may break my bones but,

that words would never hurt me.

That one could be who they wanted to be,

and live a happy life.

That the world would spin,

how I wanted it to spin.

Until I saw the world for what it truly was,

a place in need.

A place in need of love.

A place where people who were sick,

were looked upon as if they were a money bag.

A place where it did not matter if they became healthy,

what mattered was if the doctor was paid.

A place where it did not matter how the patient felt about their day,

what mattered was if they wanted soup or a sandwich for lunch.

This is a place that is filled with hatred and greed,

where patients think the doctors care,

when they only care about their wallet.

I want to work in a place where there is love and enlightenment,

where when a patient becomes healthier,

they become happier.

Where money is not all that is discussed.

I want to work in a place where a helping hand means more than a prescription.

Where I can not only make someone feel better,

but form a friendship that I could cherish forever.

One job that may change my life would be being a doctor whose world spun for others.
