Once a Year

Blue waters and sandy beaches

Pudding and diced peaches

make summers so cool

sun bathing by the pool.

No need to worry

nor scramble for books

finish papers in a hurry

the awkward first day looks.

Sweet melodies the ocean sings

how I do not miss early mornings when my alarm rings.

Summer fun in the sun

Cliché they say

but it’s the perfect summer day.

Long mornings in bed

gym sessions instead

I look forward to the start of summer

But come August, its such a bummer.

Last day of school we jumped for joy

Three months of playtime we get to enjoy,

Groupons supply the many deals

So college kids can afford all their meals.

Memories we strive to create

staying up all night and sleeping in late.

Smiles on our faces,

exploring endless places.

No need to slow down

once a year, summer comes around.
