To The Old ME

First off, lemme just say this is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do

And least of all people, who would’ve thought it had to be to you.

You are the true definition of a ride or die

To compromise, sacrifice, and put aside ya pride

To see those around you happy cause you ain’t wanna see em down

Cause you knew exactly how it felt to be kicked when you on the ground

Whether it meant keeping my mouth shut while she got that ass beat, so what I compromised my sanity

At least she wasn’t out on the streets.

Now tell me who had ya back more than I did, I still love you boo

You can still call me, and come through.

Let’s rewind to the very first time we lost our rabbit ass mind

Silly me

Should’ve been practicing for the next track meet

There I go letting some nappy-headed boy all up in my grill

He kept pestering my brother so I figured it had to be real

Right, WRONG!

This man ain’t even properly know how to put a condom on

Now 6 years later it’s crazy how you and Davion have this unbreakable bond

You let your guard down just enough for him to penetrate your soul

What you didn’t know at the time was that HE is now in control

He controlled your emotions, because now, y’all were tied and it wasn’t physical

Nahh this was more spiritual

Souls tied and in sync

So in sync, that you thought he was strong and you were weak

Choked you out til’ you thought you were on the brink,

Slapped so hard left a burning sting.

Remember you started this

Opened up and deflowered for his broken promises

Of loving and protecting you from the very monster he was hiding

But baby I congratulate you, because you stood that ground

With words and actions, you snatched that crown

Putting it high on your head back in its rightful place,

Made him bring back your pride and joy, with style and grace.

Truth be told it ain’t the first time you been stripped down, broken hearted

Age of five is where it all started

I know you don’t believe me, and we’ll just have to agree to disagree

Crazy thing is, it didn’t happen to you, it happened to ME!

Purple sweat suit with Angelica on the front, Jay had a red one and he told her to go downstairs so she ain’t get in the way

So if this really didn’t happen, then why do I still remember each detail to this very day

How I kept crying because I couldn’t grasp what was happening, I never understood

Why or how you could even pretend like everything was all-good.

Sometimes we never get the answers to some of the questions that we ask,

And even still somehow our present seems to clash with the past

Baby girl, another year is approaching and it’s time to wake up the royalty inside

That determination, your dominance, your strong will and drive

You got moves to make and it’s time to snatch back everything the stolen

Been too nice too long, and by any means necessary is now the motive
