The Old Gods Are Dead

Have you ever wondered what happened to the old gods?

What happened to the ancient heroes that used to guard the world?

I’ll tell you . . .

Zeus is an electrician. The best in his company he

Makes it all look so easy.

And maybe that’s the way he wants it.

Hera is a wedding planner. Her own “Happy Ever After”

Never really worked out, and so

She makes sure

That no woman makes the same mistake she did.

Hades runs a funeral home. It only seems appropriate

If he cannot save the souls that fall victim to his realm

At least he can make amends

With their families.

Apollo still doesn’t quite know what to do with himself.

A doctor here for a for a few decades

Or a poet there for some time.

Never the same thing for too long

Or he gets board.

Ares leads rebel forces somewhere out in the Middle east.

They are brave, violent, and bloodthirsty,

And no was ever started with a contented nation.

Ares knows this.

Aphrodite owns a fashion line that makes even the sourest of critics

Gasp in delight while they view the vibrant colors and elegant fabrics.

And her charity gives out millions of free clothes each year to children in need.

Because without beauty, what else could the goddess of Love be any good for?

The rest all have jobs as well; Poseidon is a life guard, Athena is a professor, Dionysus runs a vineyard out in LA.

But no one seems to know what happened to Hestia. Now, she sits by the hearth in a poor man’s home, keeping his fire ablaze. Mortals always seem to think that they need more wood, but she will keep their fire blazing like she always has.

She will always keep their flame alight.
