Ode to a Cottage

In the grass up on a hill

Outside the city, I see you

Dear empty onion house

Peeling and the feeling I get

Unwrapping you

For brighter insides, scrap the outsides

Dear empty onion house

Lost to us in open view and soon

The wood that held you up

Will crumble with you into dirt

The babies that grew inside you

Sometimes hurt, sometimes laugh a lot

And just like you they peel apart

For brighter insides, scrap the outsides

The babies that grew inside you

Some found ways to grow without you, but others

Stuck around in ground, but both

Will crumble with you into dirt

I see you outside the city

In the grass up on a hill

Empty onion house

Admirable still
