O Captain my Captain

O Captain my Captain

Sailing ships around shores in my mind

Weaving in and out billowing sails

Docking only rarely to impart some wisdom from sea spray

Pirate conspiracies and elegant words

A navy woman gone rogue

You never cease to amaze me

You've sank so many ships with libraries full

All their secrets filtered down into waters' depths

Into the blue depths of your depressed mind

Yet you never cease to smile

Great white shark teeth rows and rows

Hiding the scream like a locked treasure chest

Buried deep in mystic waters

O Captain my Captain

You're the wisest, kindest pirate I've met

Defying societal norms by sailing rugged seas

You saw past the ruggedness of our daily lives

You explored our minds to know end

Filling it with the daylight of slam poetry

As well as its sharp, cold razor teeth

You taught us sunken libraries

People frowned upon your education

Women shouldn't captain ships

But when you saw us we didn't think of you as bad luck

And instead of sinking our hole-filled vessels

Long nights rough pasts having to work because our parents were sea titans

You boarded, patched, bucketed our bails of water as we flailed

We were afraid of your knowledge but you were there

Always there

O Captain my Captain

I stand upon my desk and salute you

For even though Robin Williams is gone

You held us through it all

David Bowie and Alan Rickman

Our favorite comedians, actors, people

Like you, our favorite pirate

So don't let your waters bury your blue mind, my Captain

Our vessels sail now

Until you capture your sea legs

We will host your blue mind
