November Without You
A shiver of seasons had crept on us
And I found myself stringing together
Wilted leaves off the front porch
Shriveled bones and blue lips
And numb fingertips
Remind me of my distant cousin
And her poor tormented wrists but
Even more disturbing
The lack of warmth to her touch
But also neither to mine
Until frigid November returns
Here’s to the ones
Who sought no light in us
And to the season spent distant
From one another
But also closer than ever
