Not Alone

The kiss of a lover on a warm summer day

the person to whom I'm most kind.

Holding them close to make me feel okay,

leaving everyone else in the world behind.

Putting my friendships into the past,

but a flawed romance like this did not last.

I feel alone from pushing everyone else away,

but discover that to a true friend distance is okay.

And that the love of a friend is the best warmth of all,

someone who will pick up whenever you call.

You can relive your memories, the good and the bad,

they'll glow from your jokes and they'll cry when you're sad.

Someone who will sit with you on the darkest of days,

just to understand your moody haze.

Someone who won't force you to smile when it's too hard,

but will give you a hand so you don't fall apart.

The healthiest relationships aren't based on lust,

they're based on resiliency, support, and trust.
