Nokomis

Isoäiti

Grandmother

but she was

so much more

she taught me

how to love

and to be loved

to be kind

learn as much as you can

laugh, for it is the best medicine

tell stories

for they are a part of you

its okay to be wrong

but make it right

she raised me to be

the kind

caring, funny

strong Finnish

and Ojibway women

I am today

I will forever

admire a small

stubbornly sweet

Finnish women

who always knew

how to make me smile

Miigwech Nokomis

For always being there

for cheering me up

for being my support

through the sunshine

and storms

there is a thousand ways

she helped me

become who I am

I will thank her

Chii Miigwich

my dear beloved grandmother

Kiitos Isoäiti

I thank you

in my three tongues
