No house is left out.&

Location

No house is left out.  On October 31st each house contains a festoon of Halloween decorations.  Skeletons and ghosts are draped on the rooftops of every house, and pumpkins are perched on every porch.  It is on this night,  that Chicago transforms  into the most frightening city in the world.  The transformation doesn’t happen overnight.  Before the big day, families barge through the doors of local grocery stores and purchase loaves of fresh candy.  Kit Kats, Reeses, Smarties, and Snickers are purchased and stuffed into large buckets, ready to be devoured by the mouths children and adults.

Children are taken to stores to pick their new costumes.  Young boys aspire to be a certain superhero or villain, while young girls fantasize about being a princess or fairy.  Teenagers participate in the festivities as well.  Boys look for costumes that mirror their favorite celebrity, while girls wear a more libidinous costume than when they were younger.  During the night of Halloween, children are dispersed everywhere around the neighborhood.  The loud screams and cheers of every child and their parents buzz through the ears of the city.

Children happily run to the doors of each home, and sing “trick or treat.”  This routine is repeated throughout the night, for children only.  Teenagers find other ways to seek amusement.  A common way teenagers spend their Halloween,  is happily throwing eggs at windows.  As eggs crash the face of windows, teenagers scatter around the city, in order to elude policemen.  Although “eggin” may seem dangerous and completely psychotic, the logic is bypassed on Halloween.  At the end of night, the city reeks of melted chocolate and cracked eggs.  Candy wrappers cover the streets and sidewalks of every neighborhood, like falling leaves during the fall.  Children finally taste the richness of every piece of candy they collect, and teenagers head home after a long night.  All this occurs on this special night.

The next day children are cramped with dreadful stomach aches, and are driven to the dentist  to see how the consumption of bags of candy has effecting their teeth.  The costumes are put away and never brought out again because it is uncommon to wear the same costume twice.  All the decorations that were constructed,  wither away and become a memory.  Halloween  is cherished by everyone, because it is a night of excitement and it is the only night that can be called scary, without the murders and use of automatic weapons
