nights of light

a flash of white

streaks across the sky of night.

that sudden flare

had given you quite a scare.

pitter-patter of the rain

beats against the windowpane.

as you wonder

where oh where is the thunder?

rumbles in the dark

sound like an amusement park.

for thunder’s buddy lightning

is not all that frightening.

terrifying?

more like electrifying.

with no pun intended

so simply it had ended.

these streaks of white across the sky

like fireworks on fourth of July.

as the storm continues to creep

you finally begin to drift asleep.

while the clouds crash at midnight

your sleep harmonizes until first light.
