Night Twin

When the sun disappears,

As do the smiles and laughs.

The image of the people we know,

Replaced by their melancholy twin.

As night settles in, painting the sky black,

Little glimmers of stars dot  the void.

Their flames, much like our own,

Hidden in something bigger,

And slowly fading away.

Only in the darkness can it be seen,

The gentle dreamers, that are living in defeat.

The melancholy that settles upon the twin,

Merely what the world has placed upon us,

The real us.

Dreamers who want a better world,

Who in the light of the day hide

The way that the world has hurt us.

So we sit alone in the dark,

Wondering where we have been,

With the weight of the world on our shoulders.

No, we won't be seen,

We'll just create a happy costume,

A person to resemble me.

The me that people know,

To keep the dreamer down below.
