Night

All is calm and still like an untroubled pool of water.

Leaves dance slowly with the wind's gentle kiss.

The pale moon shines down on the earth like a beacon.

Creatures creep in search of sustenance and sanctuary.

Darkness pools around every crook and corner.

Stars in the sky wink periodically at onlookers below.

Cicadas drone out their mournful melodies.

Houses sit, settled and quiet as all internal activity stops.

She is familiar and sweet, that dark beauty who beckons dreams and reprieve.

Her companion is light, but her name is Night.

Explination:

Transitioning from India to the United States was a tough venture for me because I had to completely change my lifestyle in the brand new world. I was able to express my frustration and sense of bewilderment about moving to a completely different place through poems. By letting my emotions pour out on the paper, I was able to produce some tremendous poems that my peers loved. The transition, from India to United States, was similar to that of a high school to college because I had trouble getting adjusted to the new environment. However, the poems helped me express my feelings, and that is how I was able to produce this one. I produced this one because I wanted to highlight my desire for a sense of stability in my life. Night has the capacity for an unwavering stillness that is beautiful to behold. One day after a great deal of hard work I hope to achieve that same sense of peace in my existence.  I just did a free style poem that captivated the endless tranquility of the evening.
